If you are wondering what to do in Val di Fassa in winter, start your adventure at Hotel Cristallo in Canazei
The crisp morning air, the sun reflecting off the mountains, the sound of boots sinking into fresh snow: winter in the Val di Fassa is an experience that involves all the senses.
At Hotel Cristallo in Canazei, this magic begins at dawn, when the first rays of light dye the Dolomites, a UNESCO heritage site, pink.
Here, we invite you to become the protagonist of your own adventure. We want to offer you a deep connection with the territory: it is not just a matter of admiring the spectacular views from the windows of your room, but of immersing yourself completely in nature, breathing in the air and leaving your footprints in the snow.
So... what to do in the Val di Fassa in winter?
In winter, the Val di Fassa turns into a true paradise for nature and snow lovers. If you are wondering how to make your experience in Canazei unforgettable, Hotel Cristallo is your starting point.
Thanks to our strategic location, you will have access to a world of activities ranging from skiing to peaceful snowshoeing in the heart of nature. Each stay is designed to give you the freedom to choose your own pace and adventures, ensuring that each day is full of excitement and discovery.
We are located just 500 metres from the Canazei-Pecol cable car, but to make your journey even easier we provide a ski bus service, available at a cost of 10 euro per week, which will quickly connect you to the main lifts in the area:
- Canazei-Pecol cable car (3 minutes)
- Alba-Col dei Rossi cable car (5 minutes)
Thanks to these connections, you can quickly reach the main starting points of your skiing adventures and enjoy every day in the Dolomites to the full.
Just a few steps away from our hotel you will find access to the Sellaronda, one of the most renowned ski carousels in the Alps, open from early December until April. This panoramic ski tour of about 40 km allows you to explore memorable landscapes at an altitude of over 2,000 metres, guaranteeing a varied experience without ever repeating the same slope.
The Val di Fassa also offers more than 200 km of slopes suitable for all levels, distributed in various ski areas such as Canazei-Belvedere, Col Rodella, Ciampac, Buffaure, San Pellegrino and Lusia. Here is some practical advice:
-
If you are a beginner or travelling with the family, we recommend the Belvedere blue slopes, accessible from the Canazei-Pecol cableway. The Lupo Bianco slope, for example, is perfect for those who want to become familiar with skiing in a quiet and scenic setting;
-
Are you looking for adrenaline? The Volata slope, located in the Col Margherita ski area, is one of the most popular black runs in the Val di Fassa. With an altitude difference of 600 metres and gradients of up to 57%, it is only suitable for experts. And if that is not enough for you, the Ciampac, with its length and technicality, will offer an even more adrenalin-pumping experience;
-
The Panoramica del Belvedere is a must. This 5 km long red slope will offer you a smooth and enveloping descent, surrounded by splendid views of the Dolomites. Ideal for those looking for a relaxing descent without forgoing the beauty of the mountains;
-
The Pista del Bosco slope at Col Rodella and the Buffaure slope are among the most popular in the valley, ideal for those looking for a good combination of gradient and width. They are perfect for intermediate skiers who want to improve their technique in a dynamic and challenging environment;
-
In the Belvedere area you will also find a well-equipped snow park, ideal for testing jumps and tricks in total safety. Fun is guaranteed!
-
If the call of adventure pushes you beyond the beaten tracks, the Val di Fassa offers numerous ski mountaineering itineraries. Routes such as the Contrin Route and Forcella Pordoi will allow you to immerse yourself in unspoilt nature and experience the thrill of off-piste skiing. We always recommend that you venture out accompanied by experienced mountain guides for a safe and unforgettable experience.
But in addition to skiing, we provide access to a wide range of winter activities designed to satisfy every type of explorer:
- The valley offers an experience of tranquillity and contact with nature through numerous snowshoeing routes. We recommend you try the Fuciade Refuge Trail, a 6 km walk through snow-covered woods ending at a refuge where you can enjoy typical Ladin dishes. From San Giovanni, the route to Val Monzoni is ideal for families, with its 4 km length. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a shorter but equally scenic excursion, you cannot miss the path to the Buffaure Refuge, just 3 km from Pozza di Fassa, which offers truly suggestive views;
- At the Palaghiaccio di Canazei (Canazei Ice Stadium), the magic of ice turns into pure fun to be shared with children or friends. Here you can rent skates and participate in beginners' courses, or enjoy a free skating session;
- For those who want an adventure in harmony with nature, we invite you to experience the thrill of a snowmobile excursion to Val Duron. This route will take you into the heart of a snowy forest, where the enveloping silence will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
But after the adventure, relaxation
After an intense day of adventure, the time comes to relax. We will welcome you in a warm and welcoming environment, where you can leave the hustle and bustle of the day behind. Our spa is the ideal refuge to recharge your batteries, with a warm pool where you can release muscle tension and prepare for your next adventures.
Our culinary proposal celebrates the authenticity of Trentino and Ladin flavours, offering traditional dishes prepared with fresh, local ingredients.
Winter in the Val di Fassa is not just a season, it is an emotion that is renewed every day. At the Hotel Cristallo, we don't just promise you a comfortable bed (although it is, trust us), but an experience that will make you return home with eyes that sparkle and a smile that won't fade.
