The route

Until 30 March 2025, the Ciampac offers a unique experience for mountain lovers who wish to experience winter away from the crowds. A ring-route of about 3 kilometres, traced out at an altitude of 2,160 metres, allows you to immerse yourself in an uncontaminated landscape, breathe in the pure air of the Dolomites and enjoy spectacular views of the Sella Group, Piz Boè and the suggestive glacial basin of Ciampac.

Reaching the starting point is easy: from Alba di Canazei, a comfortable cable car takes you in a few minutes directly to the top, where the trail begins. The path, ideal for those seeking an alternative to the ski slopes, winds at the foot of Monte Colac and offers breathtaking views of snow-covered forests and silent expanses.

The excursion is accessible to all and can be done independently every day, or accompanied by an alpine guide on Wednesdays, for those who want an even more enthralling experience. Those who do not have their own equipment can hire snowshoes directly on site, and at the Hotel Cristallo reception desk you will find all the information you need to organise your day.

Guided hikes: discover the secrets of the mountains

The route can be tackled independently, but for those who want a group experience, it is possible to participate in guided hikes organised weekly by experienced mountain guides. The cost is €45, including round-trip climbing, and is valid for both adults and children (minimum age 8/10).

The local guides will not only accompany you safely, but will also reveal the secrets of the mountains: from animal tracks in the snow to the history of the valley, every step will be a learning opportunity. These group excursions are perfect for those who want to experience the mountains together and meet other people with the same passion for the mountains.

Mountain tastes and traditions

Local mountain guides organise weekly excursions for groups. The cost of 45 euros includes a return trip by cable car, and is valid for both adults and children from 8-10 years of age. The guides do not just accompany the groups: they share information about the local fauna, teach how to recognise animal tracks in the snow and tell the history of the valley.

There are four refuges along the route, including the renowned Tobià del Giagher and the Rifugio Ciampac. These establishments offer a warm welcome and the opportunity to sample authentic Trentino and Ladin cuisine. On the menu are traditional dishes such as canederli (dumplings) and tagliatelle al capriolo (noodles with venison), as well as the inevitable apple strudel of the Dolomite tradition.
